Reigning Italian champions Inter Milan made it two wins from two at the start of the season, edging past Cagliari 1-0 away from home in a controlled but hard-fought encounter.

The only goal arrived as early as the ninth minute. Hakan Calhanoglu produced a precise finish after being picked out by a clever pass from Nicolò Barella, giving Inter Milan an early lead.

Christian Chivu's side remained firmly in control for much of the match and created a host of opportunities to extend their advantage. However, Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile repeatedly came to his side's rescue with a series of impressive saves.

The hosts threatened more in the closing stages as they searched for an equaliser, but Inter Milan held their nerve. Solid defending and reliable goalkeeping from Yann Sommer ensured the champions preserved their slender lead and secured another three points.
