Liverpool FC and the footballing world are in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash in Spain on the night of July 3, 2025. The Portuguese forward was just 28 years old.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the fatal accident occurred on the A-52 motorway near Palacios de Sanabria, in the province of Zamora. Jota was travelling with his younger brother, André Jota, a 26-year-old professional footballer for Portuguese club Penafiel. Tragically, both men lost their lives when the vehicle veered off the road and caught fire.

Eyewitnesses reported the car skidding off the highway before bursting into flames almost instantly. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but all occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
