Liverpool Retire No. 20 Shirt in Tribute to Diogo Jota
Liverpool FC have officially retired the No. 20 shirt in honour of Diogo Jota, following the tragic death of the 28-year-old Portuguese forward. The club made the announcement in an emotional farewell letter, stating that no player will ever wear the number 20 again at Anfield.
Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite with his relentless work rate, eye for goal, and big-game impact. Fittingly, under the No. 20 jersey, he played a key role in helping the Reds claim their historic 20th league title — a symbolic link the club made sure to highlight in their tribute.
Jota’s career at Anfield was filled with unforgettable moments, but his life was tragically cut short. He and his brother, André Silva, were both killed in a car accident near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, shortly after midnight on Thursday.
