Champions League Sets New Scoring Record
The UEFA Champions League has once again lived up to its reputation for breathtaking football, setting a brand-new record for goals scored in a single matchweek. Over Tuesday and Wednesday, fans witnessed an astonishing 71 goals across just 18 matches — the highest total ever recorded in the competition’s history.
The standout clash came in Leverkusen, where Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) produced a nine-goal thriller that left spectators in awe. Elsewhere, the duel between PSV Eindhoven and Napoli delivered eight goals, while Barcelona’s high-octane encounter with Olympiacos featured seven. Despite the flood of goals, not every match followed the same script — three fixtures ended in goalless draws, proving once again how unpredictable Europe’s elite competition can be.
The previous record stood at 67 goals, set during Matchday 5 of the 2024/25 season. That round featured a series of goal-fests, including Atlético Madrid’s 6–0 demolition of Sparta Prague, Atalanta’s 6–1 triumph over Young Boys, and a pulsating 3–3 draw between Manchester City and Feyenoord. Even Shakhtar Donetsk joined the scoring spree, losing 2–3 away to PSV in a memorable encounter.
