Lionel Scaloni

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni reflected on his team's impressive 4-1 victory over Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign — a result that sealed the reigning world champions' place in the upcoming tournament.

"This was a true team victory — we played as one, and that’s exactly how we managed to limit Brazil’s influence. It’s the only way to beat a team like that," Scaloni told reporters. "They’re such a technical side, so it’s always difficult to press them effectively. I believe that early goal really helped us set the tone."

The coach also praised young forward Giuliano Simeone for his contribution: "He’s helping us a lot. I think his father passed on everything he knew as a player. We’re really happy with what Giuliano is bringing to the team."

Despite the emphatic win, Scaloni was quick to issue a reminder about the nature of football’s unpredictability: "You never know how long this kind of form will last. What’s important is to enjoy the moment — and we’ll try to make it last as long as possible."

Looking ahead to the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Scaloni added: "We expect the 2026 World Cup to be just as tough as the last one. The level of competition is incredibly even these days. There’s still a long road ahead — and we know we’ll face some very serious opponents."

Argentina are now the first South American nation to officially qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Meanwhile, the qualification journey in Europe is just beginning. Stay tuned and don’t forget to share the fixtures, results, and standings with fellow fans as the road to World Cup 2026 continues.
