City crush United in a derby that could spell the end for Amorim

The Manchester derby ended in a heavy defeat for United – a 3-0 thrashing that leaves serious doubts over Rúben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.

In the build-up, pundits warned that whichever side lost would be under intense pressure. But nobody expected a defeat of this scale. Now, United’s hierarchy face a difficult decision: offer Amorim yet another chance to turn things around, or hand the reins to a new head coach?

City ruthless, United exposed

The scoreline tells its own story. Manchester City dismantled United with ease, 3-0, and could have had more after carving open a fragile United defence time and again. The Red Devils created chances of their own, but most came when the contest was already long gone.

The opener arrived in the 18th minute. Jérémy Doku skipped past his marker and burst into the box down the right. His cross eventually reached Phil Foden, who calmly headed into the far corner – 1-0.

Haaland delivers again

United started the second half brightly, but City’s response was brutal. Doku threaded a clever pass into the area for Erling Haaland, who dinked the ball over Altay Bayındır to make it 2-0. Moments later, the Norwegian striker rounded the goalkeeper but struck the post with the goal at his mercy.

Haaland would not be denied, though. On 68 minutes, another calamitous United error left him racing clear from his own half, before drilling a low finish into the far corner – 3-0, game over.

Both Manchester clubs now face stern tests in the next round. City head to the Emirates to take on Arsenal, while United welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford in what could prove a defining week for Amorim’s tenure.
