Frankfurt - Galatasaray 5:1

Eintracht Frankfurt turned a shaky start into a footballing spectacle on home turf, crushing Galatasaray 5–1 in their UEFA Champions League 2025/26 group stage opener. What looked like a potential disaster quickly became a celebration for the home fans — and a nightmare for the visitors.

The opening stages painted a very different picture. Galatasaray came out confident and composed, playing the more attractive football. Their energy paid off midway through the first half when they broke the deadlock with a sharp counter-attack involving four players and a clinical finish.

The Turkish side had several chances to extend their lead but failed to capitalise — and they would live to regret it.

Then came the storm. Eintracht Frankfurt equalised thanks to an own goal from Mina Sánchez following a defensive mix-up. And just when Galatasaray thought they would head to the break level, Frankfurt struck twice in stoppage time, completely stunning the visitors. From control to collapse in a matter of minutes.

The second half was a different story altogether. Galatasaray never recovered from that late first-half blitz. Their attempts to claw back into the game were half-hearted at best, while Frankfurt calmly absorbed the pressure — or rather, the illusion of it — and hit back with two more goals.
