Tottenham - Manchester United 1:0

Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a triumph in the UEFA Europa League final, edging past Manchester United 1–0 in a nervy showdown between two Premier League underachievers. The result not only delivered the North London club their first trophy since 2008 but also secured them a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

With both clubs languishing at the bottom end of the Premier League table—Spurs in 17th and United in 16th heading into the final domestic matchweek—this European final took on added significance. A Champions League berth and major financial rewards were at stake, and it showed in the tension-filled opening 45 minutes.

The first half offered little in the way of attacking flair. Manchester United's best moment came in the 16th minute, when Amad Diallo pounced on a loose ball from a corner, only to send his shot just wide of the far post.

Tottenham, however, made their lone opportunity count. In the 38th minute, a low cross from Pape Matar Sarr caused confusion in the United box. Ben Johnson mis-hit his clearance, and the ball ricocheted off Luke Shaw into the back of the net—an own goal that ultimately decided the contest.

After the break, Spurs dropped deep and defended in numbers. Manchester United had chances to equalize. On 68 minutes, Rasmus Højlund nearly scored with a header after a poor punch by Guglielmo Vicario, but Micky van de Ven made a spectacular goal-line clearance. Moments later, Bruno Fernandes headed wide, and Alejandro Garnacho forced a diving save from Vicario with a low strike toward the far post.

But the biggest moment came deep into stoppage time. In the seventh minute of added time, Luke Shaw thought he had scored with a powerful header—only for Vicario to deny him with a world-class save that sealed the title.

Full-time: Tottenham 1–0 Manchester United. A gritty win, a precious trophy, and a long-awaited return to Europe's elite competition. Against all odds, 17th-place Tottenham Hotspur will join five other English clubs in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
