Rúben Amorim

Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim has won praise for an extraordinary act of generosity, personally funding the trip for 30 club staff members to attend the Europa League final in Bilbao.

As United prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur on 21 May, controversy had erupted over the club’s limited ticket allocation policy. Players were each given just two free tickets, and — for the first time in recent memory — no complimentary tickets were made available to non-playing staff. The decision was attributed to ongoing cost-cutting measures at the club.

Amorim Steps In Where the Club Wouldn’t

Unwilling to let loyal workers be left behind, Amorim decided to right the wrong himself. According to ESPN, he has personally covered the cost of travel and tickets for 30 staff members — many of whom work in the club’s lowest-paid positions — to attend the final in Spain.

In an even more generous gesture, each staff member will be allowed to bring up to two family members or friends, with those extra tickets also covered by the Portuguese manager.

“A Reward for Loyalty”

Explaining his decision, Amorim described the gesture as a “reward for those who stood by me during the most difficult early months at United.”

It’s a move that has resonated deeply with fans and pundits alike — a symbol of unity, respect, and the kind of leadership that goes beyond tactics and results.
