Renato Paiva has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Botafogo following the club’s early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The decision was officially announced on Monday morning.

The dismissal comes in the aftermath of Botafogo’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to domestic rivals Palmeiras in the Round of 16 — a result that ended the club’s brief campaign on the global stage.

In addition to Paiva, several members of his coaching staff have also left the club, including assistant coaches Ricardo Dionísio and Miguel dos Santos, goalkeeping coach Rui Tavares, and fitness coach Daniel Castro.

Paiva was appointed on February 27, taking over from Artur Jorge, the coach who famously led Botafogo to their historic Copa Libertadores triumph. Over the course of 23 matches in charge, Paiva recorded 12 wins, 3 draws, and 8 defeats — a mixed spell that ultimately fell short of expectations.

At the time of his dismissal, Botafogo sit 8th in the Brasileirão Série A standings, with 18 points from 11 matches — a respectable but underwhelming return for a club with continental ambitions.
