Dortmund delivered a masterclass performance to thrash Sporting

In a match that defied expectations, Borussia Dortmund delivered a masterclass performance to thrash Sporting Lisbon in their own backyard. The German side's 3-0 victory was as unexpected as it was deserved.

The first half was relatively even, with Sporting Lisbon creating more attacks and testing the goalkeeper. However, Gregor Kobel was in excellent form, dealing with every shot that came his way. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund had their own style of play, which Sporting struggled to handle at times — although the Germans faced difficulties finishing their chances. That said, the second half promised anything could happen.

Borussia Dortmund somehow seized full control of the game, pinning Sporting back into their own half and applying relentless pressure for the first 20 minutes after the break. The result was two stunning goals. The first was a beauty: Julian Brandt delivered an exquisite cross from the wing, and Serhou Guirassy, leaping into the air, caught the goalkeeper off guard with a header into the far corner. The second goal saw Guirassy return the favor, assisting Gio Reyna with a perfectly placed ball from the same right flank.

Despite this, Sporting Lisbon did manage to regroup and pushed forward, but they couldn’t create any significant chances. On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund punished them on the counter-attack. Brandt and Kareem Adeyemi finished off the move clinically. With that, the game was effectively over, and Sporting Lisbon was left to reflect on a disorganized performance — a far cry from the well-oiled team under Rúben Amorim.
