Belgium legend Jan Vertonghen has officially retired from professional football at the age of 37, bringing an end to a glittering career that spanned nearly two decades.

The veteran defender made a total of 880 appearances over 19 seasons, winning five trophies and leaving a lasting impact at every club he represented. With 154 caps and 10 goals for the Belgium national team, Vertonghen remains the nation’s most capped player of all time.

He was a cornerstone of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur, helping the club reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019, and previously enjoyed title-winning success with Ajax in the Eredivisie. He finished his playing days at RSC Anderlecht, serving as a leader both on and off the pitch.
