Aston Villa produced a stunning second-half turnaround

Aston Villa produced a stunning second-half turnaround to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, equalling a historic club record for consecutive Premier League victories. The hero of the night was Ollie Watkins, who came off the bench after the break and scored twice to flip the game on its head.

The visitors were largely on the back foot in the first half, absorbing pressure as Chelsea dictated possession and tempo. The hosts were eventually rewarded late in the half when a corner caused chaos inside the penalty area, allowing João Pedro to bundle the ball home from close range.

Chelsea had chances to extend their lead before the interval, but Emiliano Martínez kept Aston Villa in the contest with a series of crucial saves, ensuring the deficit remained manageable.

The turning point came after the break. Unai Emery reshaped the match by introducing Ollie Watkins, Amadou Onana and Jadon Sancho, and the impact was immediate. On 58 minutes, Watkins drew Villa level, finishing clinically after a sharp assist from Morgan Rogers.

Momentum swung decisively in Villa’s favour. With seven minutes remaining, Watkins struck again — rising highest to meet a corner delivered by Sancho and powering a header into the net to complete a memorable comeback.

The victory marks Aston Villa’s 11th consecutive league win, matching a club record first set in 1897 and later repeated in 1914. Emery’s side now sit just three points off the league leaders and will face Arsenal on Tuesday in a fixture that could have major implications at the top of the Premier League.
