England National Team Returns to Nottingham Forest’s City Ground After 84 Years
For the first time in 84 years, the England national team will play at City Ground, the home stadium of Nottingham Forest. The Football Association has arranged a friendly match against Senegal to be held there after the conclusion of the club season.
The match is scheduled for June 10, just three days after England’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Andorra. The last time City Ground hosted an England match was in 1941, when they faced Wales.
The decision to return to Nottingham was influenced by the impressive organization of the England U21 match against Serbia in October 2023. The FA now aims to bring the senior team to the historic venue.
Currently, City Ground has a capacity of just over 30,000, but plans are underway to expand it by an additional 10,000 seats, with construction potentially starting this summer.
