The Ukrainian full-back spoke candidly about adapting to life in the Premier League, his family, and his mindset at the club

Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko opened up about his journey in English football and life on Merseyside in an interview with journalist Viktor Vatsko. The Ukrainian full-back spoke candidly about adapting to life in the Premier League, his family, and his mindset at the club.

“When my daughter was born, everything changed. Becoming a father helped me see things differently — I became calmer about football and more settled within the team. I truly feel like I belong here. I’m part of the core of this squad now, and I can confidently say that I’ve fully adapted to life at Everton.”

Discussing his progress with English, Mykolenko smiled: “My level is good enough to joke around! The sentences aren’t long, but I can understand a joke and make one myself. I can talk about almost anything in the dressing room, with anyone I want. The only thing I don’t like is arguing in English — it’s hard to express myself properly when I’m angry.”

When asked about David Moyes’ recent praise calling him one of Everton’s strongest defenders, Mykolenko stayed humble: “I wouldn’t say I’m the best or strongest defender in recent years — we’ve had and still have many great ones. But yes, I’d like to think I’m among the strongest we’ve had lately.”

The left-back also addressed rumours about contract talks: “That’s completely false. We simply haven’t started discussions yet. My agent will speak with Everton soon, but I’m not thinking about it. I’m enjoying my football here — I love playing for this club. I’m happy here, and my family feels comfortable in Liverpool.”

“I know how the coaching staff and the club feel about me, and that means a lot. Even if there’s no new offer in January or before, I won’t worry. I’m a professional. I’ll keep giving 100% — I’ll never refuse to train or complain about anything. That’s not who I am,” Mykolenko added.
