Simone Inzaghi loses second Champions League final

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi shared his disappointment and pride after his team’s crushing 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.

Respect for PSG’s Victory

“PSG deserved this victory and this trophy,” Inzaghi told UEFA.com. “We are disappointed, but our journey to this final was remarkable. As a coach, I’m proud of my players. Today’s performance wasn’t good — I thanked the team for everything they gave this season. We played 58 matches, we used up all our energy. We didn’t win trophies, but I’m proud to be their coach.”

Lessons from Painful Defeats

The loss was especially painful given Inter’s heartbreak in the 2023 Champions League final. “After the defeat in Istanbul, we came back stronger and won Serie A the next season. We must do the same now. We have to learn from our mistakes and let these defeats strengthen us,” Inzaghi emphasized.

Praise for PSG, Honest Self-Critique

Inzaghi acknowledged the clear superiority of Luis Enrique’s side on the night. “PSG were first to the ball permanently. We had to play much better,” he admitted. “It hurts now, as it did after Istanbul. But this was a different game — we must grow from it.”
