Canada Fight Back Against Iceland Ahead of World Cup 2026

Canada, one of the hosts of the upcoming World Cup 2026, continued their preparations with an entertaining friendly against Iceland in Toronto.
The European side made a flying start, capitalising on defensive lapses from the hosts. By the 22nd minute, Iceland had raced into a 2–0 lead, with 21-year-old Orri Oskarsson punishing mistakes at the back with two well-taken goals.
However, the second half told a different story. Canada responded with determination and found their way back into the contest through two penalties. On both occasions, Jonathan David, the Juventus forward, stepped up and calmly converted — striking into the same corner each time, leaving the Iceland goalkeeper with no chance.
Late drama added further tension as Tajon Buchanan was sent off, reducing Canada to ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts held firm in the closing stages to secure a 2–2 draw.
